God's agenda

This Season of Prayer, Fasting & Giving has started so well. The giving on the first Sunday was amazing – £137,000 pledged. What a generous and faith-filled start! I'm so grateful to God for such a tremendous response in week one.

The prayer meetings have been equally exciting. Sunday morning was particularly powerful, with such a tremendous sense of God's presence as we worshipped. I can't remember a time like it for quite a while.

On Sunday evening, David Simpkins read from Isaiah 58 – it's a passage about true fasting and the type of activity that God honours and values. It talks about dealing with injustice, setting the oppressed free, feeding the hungry, providing shelter – looking after those in need. As we set aside time to seek God, making time and space for Him, we mustn't forget it's not just about our prayers, but lifestyles.

From the outset, we had decided that a large proportion of this season's tithe would go to meeting the needs of the poor in our town – we're not yet quite certain how, but it's good to know we're in line with God's agenda!

Reading: Isaiah 58
Next Prayer Meeting: Sunday at 7am
