Investing in the eternal

I remember learning about tithing and the principle of generosity just after I gave my life to Christ. At the time I didn't really have any money, but faithful giving became part of my early Christian walk.

As time has passed and my financial circumstances have changed, my giving has continued and grown, but not without a fight! There have been times when my hand has been open with my money and others where, for one reason or another, my greasy palm has wanted to tighten around my cash. In those times, when I don't 'feel' like being generous, a battle is taking place. Ultimately it is a battle for my trust and the question I need to answer is: in whom or what am I placing my trust?

And now here we are again, in a time of giving, in a time where the battle between this world's riches and the kingdom of God rages a bit hotter. I don't think I'll ever find it easy this side of heaven, but I will keep giving myself a good talking to and not let the love of money keep me from the love of God.

Every opportunity to sow into God's kingdom is an opportunity to invest in something eternal that will yield a far greater return than anything I could invest in here on Earth - as a friend of mine always says, "It's all gonna burn!"
