Back in May this year, three things collided in me to awaken a fresh hunger for God.
Firstly, a growing realisation of my complete dependence on God (or bankruptcy without Him); secondly books that stirred my hunger and appetite for Him and His closeness (The Power of Presence by Neil Anderson, Heavenly Man by Brother Yun, Prodigal God by Tim Keller and Intercessor by Rees Howells); and lastly one Saturday evening where I gave prolonged time to pray in tongues and I met with God in a deeper way.
This started in me a fresh hunger for God. I soon felt convicted that I spend too long watching TV, which at best was a waste of time and at worst led me to sin.
As I've obeyed the Holy Spirit's prompting (turned off the TV) and created more space to be with God, I've found a fresh hunger for Him growing within.
During this season of 40 days of hungering after God, I want to grow in prayer, knowing what it is to ask specifically and see answers come. I want to hear God's voice more clearly, becoming more aware of Him throughout my day and quicker to obey His voice. And lastly I'd love to see more of God's kingdom breaking out in power.
My hope and prayer is over these 40 days of hungering after God, you too will freshly experience God's love and grace leading you to pursue Him with renewed energy and determination.
"If you don't feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it's not because you have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because you have nibbled so long at the table of the world. Your soul is stuffed with small things, and there is no room for the great." John Piper
