SELECTED STORY: IPAD IDOLS

“So when we went home for supper, I wiped all the games off my iPad.”

Jane Burgess
I had just spent five days at a conference at Ashburnham Place. Whilst I was there, I received healing for some old memories which had surfaced during the teaching. On the last night I asked God for help to persevere as I'm a great starter of things, but I'm a poor finisher! I knew I needed to recognise those things which take me away from God and to recognise all that He wants to achieve in my life.

At the end of the conference, my husband and I arrived at my brother's home in time for tea and cake before being taken to 6 O’Clock Church. What an amazing service!

As I listened to the sermon God really challenged me about the idols in my life. Paul asked us about what idols we would need to bring so that they could be smashed on the field behind the church. A quiet voice whispered in my ear ‘My iPad and all the games on it!’

So when we went home for supper, I wiped all the games off my iPad. I had been using the games to cope with an ongoing issue in my life, but they had become all consuming. You do not realise how many hours can be wasted playing. I don't know if I could have done this without the teaching and prayers received earlier in the week, but all that, combined with the challenge of the sermon, gave me the courage to step out in faith.
