HEARING GOD'S VOICE
22.09.16 | PAUL MANN |
28th June 2012
At our Vision & Finance Day on Sunday, we heard about the many ways in which God has really blessed us over the last year. We shared some of the key statistics – for example: 17 people became Christians; 13 people were baptised; at least 700 people visited one of our nine Community Groups; over 50 people have benefitted from the foodbank; many reported being healed of different conditions – from long-term back problems to mental health issues; 14 pastoral deacons were appointed.
We also remembered our phenomenal giving over the last year: significantly over £300,000 from the autumn 2011 Season of Prayer, Fasting & Giving, and general tithes of about the same amount again in the 2011-12 financial year! We've given away over £60,000 to various charities, projects and supporting church plants overseas, such as Montpellier.
Paul spoke from Luke 4:14-19 about Jesus, empowered by the Spirit, setting out the mandate for his ministry: that he came to preach good news to the poor; freedom for those caught up in addictions, debt or other entangling situations; recovery of sight – physically and spiritually; release for the oppressed, those with no hope; and to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour – NOW! Jesus was empowered by the Spirit for ministry: the Holy Spirit is poured out on us that we may have power to impact our town and our communities.
Paul explained: "We desire to glorify God, grow disciples, reach our communities. We cannot do it in our own strength: oh, how we need him! If Jesus – the Son of God – was empowered by the Holy Spirit, how much more does King's Church Hastings in June 2012 need to be empowered by the Spirit if we're going to do all that God has called us to do?!"
